Job Summary
Individual will be responsible for and manage the Technical Services department which includes overseeing all technical services personnel, comprehension of codes, standards & project specifications, quality control and quality assurance tasks, working with operations and sales departments, and collaboration with engineers, FDOT & contractors.
Responsibilities
- Leadership role as Director of the Technical Services department.
o Oversight of Technical Services personnel: Technical Services Manager, Lab Manager & Technicians.
o Manage and develop as necessary, quality systems manual and standard operating procedures.
o Maintain compliance with industry standards, such as FDOT, ASTM, ACI, NRMCA & NCMA.
o Consistent evaluation & training of plant production personnel.
o Raw materials evaluation for optimum products performance and cost.
o Product development and improvement.
- Involved with industry codes & standards, trade associations and FDOT to ensure company maintains compliance and ahead of trends.
- Review of specifications for quoting and designing mixtures.
- Responsible for key performance indicators of the department.
- Act as liaison to the Sales & Operation departments, meeting weekly with these departments.
o Collaborate with sales to successfully quote and acquire projects.
o Provide support to customers before, during and after project procurement.
o Assist customers with questions, concerns and issues.
o Work with operations to ensure consistent and precise production of our products.
o Assist operations with production issues.
o Provide benefit/cost analysis of raw materials, production improvements, etc.
- Meet with production personnel, sales team, customers, construction project meetings, etc.
- Provide training and education to all levels of our employees, our customers and specifiers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or similar degree with an emphasis on concrete construction materials.
- Professional licensure not required, but ability to obtain is beneficial.
- 10-15 years of relevant experience in cement-based products design, production and testing.
- 5-10 years of experience as a Quality Control or Technical Services Manager/Engineer.
- Ability to obtain industry certifications a must.
o Certifications most applicable to this position would include:
§ NRMCA Concrete Technologist Level 3 or 4
o Certifications which hold or have held should include:
§ ACI Level I
§ ACI Masonry
Attributes
- Understanding of structural concrete design, strength of materials and chemistry of cement.
- Extensive technical knowledge of cement-based products (concrete & masonry), including designing, production and troubleshooting.
- Create accurate and timely submittals, reports, etc.
- Able to lead a department, including all personnel, budgeting, forecasting and structuring.
- Capable of reading and understand codes, specifications and standards applicable to our industry.
- Thorough knowledge of the Florida Building Code or other similar state building code.
- Strong knowledge and experience with concrete raw materials, mixture proportioning and performance. This includes mixture optimization for performance & cost.
- Knowledge of KPI’s/Measures applicable to the technical/quality control area of the concrete products industry.
- Ability to apply analytical thinking to address and solve problems.
- Demonstrate precision and accuracy with every aspect of the position.
- Able to understand and perform new laboratory tests.
- Strong math, statistical analysis and technical writing skills.
- Well versed in Microsoft products and a general understanding of industry specific software.
